Burn care standards

Following publication of the National Burn Care Review (NBCR) in 2001, the need to implement its recommendations were recognised by the creation of the UK National Burn Care Group (NBCG) in 2003.

The 143 recommendations of the National Burn Care Review (NBCR) were translated into the international Burn Care Standards (iBCS) in 2003 and are being applied to the UK burn services subsequently. A revision to the original standards was agreed in 2005.

During 2011, burn service clinicians and networks agreed that the burn care standards should be revised and re-written. An expert working group, led by the Midlands Burn Care Network undertook this extensive work and the revised standards were signed-off and published in January 2013.
