In 2001 the National Burn Care Review Committee (NBCR) published a review of burn care services across the UK. It highlighted a distinct difference in standards for burn care in the UK compared to international best practice. This report made several key recommendations, including the reconfiguration of burn services to a tiered network structure of burn centres, units and facilities.
The London and South East of England Burn Network is working closely with specialised service (SCG) commissioners to establish a sustainable, world class burn service, delivering best practice and meeting all appropriate national standards of care. In 2010, the SCG commissioning groups jointly agreed to undertake a major review of burn services in our network, with the intention of determining the long term configuration for burn services in the network.
